Rob Dignum Player Coach
Player Coach, Rugby Lions RFC
Rob started playing rugby at the age of 8 at Hinckley RFC and quickly fell in love with our great game. Rob has done pretty much everything one can do over the border in Leicestershire having represented the County at every age group and lifted every trophy on offer in the County, playing for and captaining the full County side on a number of occasions. It was in Rob’s earlier rugby that some of his career highlights took place, Midlands Colts Captain and England Trials. Following this Rob spent three seasons at Leicester Tigers, one in the academy and two in the seniors. During this time Rob played forty games for Tigers Extras and sat on the bench for the first team twice, sadly never to get on! After this Rob spent a season in New Zealand playing for Sumner RFC just outside Christchurch and trialled with Canterbury U21. Upon his return Rob has played 400+ first team games for Hinckley RFC captaining the side on many occasions.
Rob has worked in Rugby as a PE Teacher at Avon Valley for nine years. Throughout this time he has been Head of Rugby at the school and Coach of the Rugby District U16 squad and as such has coached many of the young men in the town over the years.
The lure of a new start at such a prestigious club as Rugby Lions was too great to turn down therefore and Rob has grand plans for the club in moving them forward to the higher leagues where he believes they belong. It is hoped that with his wealth of playing experience, coaching skills and rapport with players, exciting things are coming the way of Rugby Lions.
