Lions Under 17’s Hold Their League Top Spot
Leamington United U17’s 3pts :: The Rugby Lions U17’s 25pts
This was a hard fought match on Sunday away to Leamington United in the U17’s league. The result put The Rugby Lions at the top of the league with a game in hand.
This match was never going to be easy against a combined Leamington XV. Lions gave away an early penalty which allowed Leamington their only score of the match.
The match was a fight for territory from the off and the plaudits for this were quite even. Most of the territory being contested in the centre area of the pitch. It took Lions 20 minutes to break the Leamington defences when Josh Cooke picked his opportunity to score a scorching first try. A further 3pts were added by Chris Easton from a Leamington infringement. More pressure from Lions enabled Cieron Wardle to reach the corner for a second try, Josh Cooke converted. More of the same in the second half, the Lions well drilled forwards making their mark in scrums and in the rucks. Luke Hibbard scored after a stunning right of field run and Lions scored a further penalty in the final minutes of the game.
The team wish to send their commiserations to, Tactical Coach, Blake Sporne whose mother passed away this week, he has our deepest sympathy.
