Jeff Nowill Steps Down Has Chairman

The Lions have announced that Jeff Nowill, Chairman, has stepped down, effective as of March 1st, 2020. Into the 2020-21 season, he will remain with the club in the role of Commercial Director, with a view to securing the club’s inward revenue streams, but will not be involved in the daily activity of the club’s operation, or playing affairs.

Commenting on the move, Nowill explained: “I returned to The Lions in 2013, with the club in need of some additional help perhaps; and since then we’re risen from The Midland’s fifth-tier to the first, and enjoyed a Twickenham final en route. It was a privilege to be part of a team that achieved so much. Moreover, although it was very much not the original plan, I’ve managed to put that wonderful shirt on again for a further 7 seasons – although somewhat further forward in the scrums than once I managed. However, over those years, my job has changed significantly and I no longer have a UK-only remit. Last year, for example, I took 108 flights, and it’s impossible to travel so extensively and have a daily, operational and meaningful input to a rugby club such as ours. The new role is one I can much easier fit-in around my other commitments”.

The Lions would like to express its many thanks to Jeff both on and off the pitch over the last seven years, and when work commitments allow, to still grace Webb Ellis road with the occasional appearence in a playing shirt or on the balcony cheering on the first team.

It is expected that David Owen will step back into the role of Chairman, deputised by Vice Chairman Ben Everton, until the AGM when a forward plan will be agreed.
