The rugby Football Club

At the home of Rugby since 1867

In 1823, the game as we know it, began in the town of Rugby.

William Webb Ellis of Rugby School it was ‘who with a fine disregard for the rules of football as played in his time, first took the ball in his arms and ran with it’. Thus, the game of rugby football was born.

With such a unique and special heritage, we are the only team in the world that can proudly call themselves…… THE RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB.

Welcome

We are the Rugby Football Club, a passionate and dedicated rugby club which is committed to fostering a strong sense of community and sportsmanship through our love of Rugby.

Based at Webb Ellis Road, Rugby, we are proud to be the ‘Home of Rugby Football’. Also known as the Rugby Lions, our logo of the rampant Lion is the same as that of Town House, Rugby School where William Webb Ellis was a pupil. Alongside, Town House and the England national team, Rugby Football Club are the only other team to have the honour of playing in white shirts.

Our club is composed of a diverse group of players and supporters, ranging from mini and juniors to youth and adult groups plus the town’s only ladies team called the Lionesses. We are also proud of our strong record of success, having won numerous titles and accolades in local, regional and national competitions.
